National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR)

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is an important clinical unit of National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation. It started its journey with the rehabilitation of injured freedom fighters at liberation war. The department plays a vital role in different post traumatic, musculoskeletal, rheumatological and neurological diseases management and rehabilitation.

At present, seven physiatrists and one rheumatologist are serving in this department including Two Professor, One Associate Professors, One Assistant Professor, One Junior Consultant (in situ), Two Registrars, Two Assistant registrars and One medical officer. Clinical meeting, case discussions and specialized rehabilitation services are organized in this department regularly.

Out Patient Department

In Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department, we attend around 50-60 patients daily. Here a good number of patients are also referred from the Orthopedic department for rehabilitation.

Paediatric Rehabiliation Clinic

A weekly paediatric rehabilitation clinic is run by the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department every Wednesday since 2021. Here patients with different childhood musculoskeletal and neurological disorders including Cerebral Palsy, Muscular dystrophies, Post Traumatic & Congenital Musculoskeletal deformities are assessed by the Rehabilitation team comprising  Orthopedic surgeons, Physiatrists, Physiotherapists, Occupational therapists and orthotists. Upto date 400. Patients are given rehabilitation with regular followup of different duration.
